David Theurer Call Obituary, Death – Dave Call was one of the most attractive ever. Kindness was his. He was the most eager pupil. He loved studying life’s science in all its elements. He enjoyed surprise and amusing others with his discoveries. John Randall and Paula Call, Salt Lake City, April 12, 1978. David was best until kindergarten. He enjoyed hiding in clothes shelves, opening his kid leash’s tricky lock, and disassembling products to test them.

Six-year-old David survived meningitis. The event damaged his hearing. In later years, his family and friends pondered if he taught himself or if losing his hearing provided him more study and exploration chances. David listened well despite his hearing loss. I graduated from Olympus High in 1996. His seven years at community college ended when a teacher revealed they never gave As.

David took the first A, always up for a challenge. He was smart and could solve any problem, but he sometimes chose “perfect” above “good enough.” David stopped coasting in SLCC and aced Utah mechanical engineering. He appreciated mechanical engineering’s challenges and problem-solving. David liked thinking and doing. David created a swamp cooler from five-gallon buckets, sponges, and surgical tubing for desert camping with a friend. Built by him, it worked. He likes exploring.

All winter and spring, he read guidebooks to identify Utah’s greatest hiking and backpacking. Utilizing his lightest kit, he walked King’s Peak alone or with his best buddies for days. Many excursions allowed optimization before starting something new. David debated mechanical engineering or law school to become a lawyer. He earned his J.D. at Utah’s SJ Quinney College of Law by solving problems.

Despite his good grades and patent writing skills, law was never his love. Loved everyone he met. He always said law school gave him the best friends and family. In 2021, Maschoff Brennan shareholder David retired after successful patent legal careers. He and Randi Smith founded Smalls & Co. Design, realizing her longtime dream of owning an interior design firm. Randi says David invested everything in Smalls & Co. At Smalls & Co., David used his CAD and design talents to improve the company’s products, fostering his love of learning.

Everyone saw Randi and David’s Smalls & Co. success. After joining Randi in business, David’s brown, laughing eyes sparkled anew, as in everything else. David and Randi loved each other. Their 2003 meeting and fingernail incident led to love at first sight. They became inseparable after two weeks of flirting. They valued simple togetherness. Everything was an adventure, big or small. Teammates and best friends. Smalls Manor was renovated in six years. They lived the best life in love, joy, and laughter.
